Justin Spring

Justin trained at Capital and went on to compete for the University of Illinois on a full scholarship.  Justin helped the U.S. men win the team bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He won the parallel bars at the 2008 Visa Championships and has two U.S. horizontal bar titles (2005 and 2007). He had reconstructive surgery on his knee after tearing his ACL at the 2007 Visa Championships. Spring was an All-American from 2003-06 at the University of Illinois. As a senior, he won the Nissen-Emery Award and was named the Big 10 Gymnast of the Year. He says his teammates had the most influence on his athletic career because they always kept him motivated.  Justin is now coaching at the University of Illinois.

Ashley Postell

Ashley trained at Capital and was a nine-year member of the U.S. National Team.  She was also 2002 World Balance Beam Champion, competed at both the 2002 and 2003 World Championships.  Ashley was the 2003 U.S. champion on floor exercise also placed second on beam and fourth in the all-around and on bars at the 2003 USA Championships.  Ashley went on to compete for the University of Utah on a full scholarship.

Katie Heenan

Katie trained at Capital and was a six-year member of the U.S. National Team.  She competed at the 2004 Olympic Trials and was an athlete representative for the 2004 Olympic Team Selection Camp.  Placed first on bars at the 2004 Pacific Alliance Championships, the 2003 National Championships, the 2003 National Elite Podium meet, the 2001 U.S. Gymnastics Championships as well as a Bronze medalist on bars at the 2001 World Championships.  Katie went on to compete for the University of Georgia on a full scholarship.

Kaitlin Tortorich

Kaitlin trained at Capital as a power tumbler.  She competed in the following meets, 2009 Final Selection Event, Las Vegas, Nev.: 2nd-TU, 2009 Visa Championships, Dallas, Texas: 1st-TU, 2008 Visa Championships, Houston, Texas: 1st-TU, 2008 U.S. Elite Challenge, Mobile, Ala.: 1st-TU, 2007 Stars and Stripes Cup, Birmingham, Ala.: 1st-TU, 2007 National Championships, Memphis, Tenn.: 4th-TU, 2007 U.S. Elite Challenge, Colorado Springs, Colo.: 1st-TU.  Kaitlin also competed at World Championships and helped clinch the Bronze Team Medal in 2007.  

Susannah Johnson
